Some would say that K'naan is a unique talent in the game with a unique style. He was born in Somalia, then moved to New York City, and then Canada. His music is often filled with mentions of his unique perspective and insight that no one else in the game can really match.
"Gold in Timbuktu" is an example of one side of K'naan that is very soulful and relaxing, but then turns right around shows his lyrical skills. Yes, K'naan is also a poet. You can just tell with certain artists.
Anyone that's been following K'naan for a minute remembers how much exposure he got from the 2010 World Cup when his song "Waving Flag" was the official anthem of the entire event. K'naan's music can serve as a bridge between nations, but he can definitely hold his own lyrically.
This song is a good summary on his place in hip hop...
