It's the day Columbus hip-hop heads have been waiting for. The homie P. Blackk dropping his debut album Blackk Friday and it hasn't disappointed. Download the album Here for free or you could be like me and go cop it on iTunes.
Quick Review:
This album may be a debut but P's growth is very evident with this one. From the turmoil and sadness expressed in tracks like "An Ex Love Song" to pride of culture drops like "Anim Blackyaw" and "Brainz," P. Blackk created a project that those feel in his situation can feel as well as one for those curious about such.
With features from Columbus counterparts Fly Union (Including exclusive production from Iye), Fabrashay A and LxE For The Uncool as well as Baker's Club associate Raz Fresco, Blackk Friday doesn't overload the listener with braggadocios partners, it just features those who fit in with it.
Blackk Friday serves as a perfect example of hip-hop representation from including black power samples from Angela Davis to those of hip-hop greats such as Eazy-E and Raekwon. P. Blackk also exuberates a quiet confidence in his rhymes but gives off an impression of "still got a long way to go."
Production-wise one can definitely feel the influence of MnkeyWrench synthesizers but this album is far from sounding like a Fly Union project, a tribute to Iye who definitely let P make this his baby.
If you want to call yourself a Columbus hip-hop fan, this is a must cop. Go get it on iTunes and then buy a physical copy. P. Blackk is someone worth rooting for person and music-wise.
