Best Hip-hop Beef Songs of All-Time

(Courtesy of brooklyntheborough.com)

Like the beefing it’s self this list could create some big controversy. From old to new, important to sniping, everything makes my list. Here is the list:

The Bridge is Over- Boogie Down Productions: The original, the start of hip-hop beefs, The Bridge is Over was the major stunner in the first NY beef and the ORIGINAL beef; South Bronx vs. Queensbridge.

2. Ether- Nas: A major song in the second NY beef not just for the beef with Jay-Z, but really made other MCs not want to get at Nas. Jim Jones must have not gotten the message.

3. Takeover- Jay-Z: As much as I don’t like the victims, The Takeover really hurt Nas and Mobb Deep. Really it wasn’t as much against them as it was Jay proclaiming himself “King of New York.”

4. Real Muthaphuckkin’ G’s- Eazy-E: Although the Eazy-E fallout of NWA was sad, Eazy goes hard at Dr. Dre. This song is a classic and classic Eazy-E deserves mention on any list.

5. Who Shot Ya?- The Notorious B.I.G.: Not really a direct diss but really erie and ear-catching. Instead of direct name-calling, Biggie subliminally shoots at Tupac which make it especially good.

6. Hit em’ Up- Tupac: As much as I hate Tupac, hate the song, like Biggie, and love Mobb Deep, Hit em’ Up was probably Tupac’s best shot in the Biggie vs. Tupac feud.

7. Fuck Compton- Tim Dog: Arguably the song that started the whole East Coast, West Coast feud and one of the reasons East Coast comes before West Coast when you say it!!!

8. Destroy and Rebuild- Nas: Nas vs. Queensbridge. Takes shots at Nature, Prodigy, and Cormega plus anyone born there. The most direct feuds I have ever seen started in one song!

9. Thun N Kicko- Cormega and Prodigy: Not as known as the above mentioned but just listen to it. Tons of memorable lines taking shots at Nas and it is not often Nas gets Merked; This song does just that.

10. Supa Ugly- Jay-Z: Another great shot at Nas and really downplays Nas’ credentials to be “King of New York.”

$5 Trivia

Hey everyone, in celebration of the start of the 2009 NFL season, I am going to give you a trivia question which you can answer in the comments section. $5 will be added to the winners pot if they can also win the fantasy league. You have to win both the fantasy league and the trivia question to win the $5. If you are not in the fantasy league, I will just give you the $5 if you win. I will also provide one hint. Without further ad-due, here is the question:

Who is my favorite NFL player of all-time?

HINT: While he was never a Seahawk, the greatest to ever play his position was...

Most Underrated: Hip-Hop Artists

(Courtesy of alotabomb.blogspot.com)

Ok so earlier I did most underrated hip-hop songs. Now I am going to do the top 10 most underrated MCs. This was a hard list to make cause there are so many slept on artists. Again sorry about the bias 9 out of the 10 artists are East-coast. Anyway here is the list...

1. AZ- Nas Jr. has the hits and albums but is virtually non-represented. Probably the biggest ratio of quality work and non-mention.

2. Cormega- Keeps it real in every song and really speaks from the heart. Problems in his career kept him from being really noticed. Still talent and ear-catching lyrics are there.

3. Jeru the Damaja- Hasn't put out much notably besides Wrath of Math but pure lyricism and unique style makes him an easy mention on this list.

4. Boot Camp Clik- Probably the biggest group of really talented artists that NEVER get mentioned. Heltah Skeltah, Buckshot, Smif-N-Wessun, etc... Crazy.

5. Smoothe Da Hustler- Just a man who has crazy flow but really great street metaphors within his rap.

6. Royce Da 5'9"- Really nice MC who is still going. Great lyricism who is more then just a D12 member. Has multiple nice albums to his credit, oh wait, what credit?

7. GZA- With multiple very talented MCs in the WU, GZA is often overlooked. In my opinion Liquid Swords was the best solo album ever put out by a Wu member but with RZA, Meth, Ghost, and Rae getting all the credit from that camp, everyone forgot about GZA.

8. Onyx- Deep rhymes and really nice quality work. Bacdafucup never gets put up for one of the top East Coast albums, which it is.

9. Nine- Good work and unique voice really makes this NY rapper a credit needer.

10. Mobb Deep- You know I had to add them, but not for the reasons you think. Havoc never gets credit for all the producing work he has done not only for Mobb Deep but for artists all over. P's lyricism is not underrated or overrated it is what it is, great. Also people seem to think the Mobb is a one album crew. Hell on Earth and Murda Muzik should show you different.
